Research and Development

Valuable aromatic oil can be extracted from Agarwood Managed forestry continues to advance in terms of techniques, productivity and the business model economics thanks to continuing research and development by both private and public organisations. Concerns about climate change, biodiversity and population are accelerating interest in and our knowledge of managed forestry.

Touchwood’s plantations utilize the latest practices advised by forestry experts to achieve optimum growth rates. Methods are constantly being evaluated to ensure they remain as “industry best practice”.

The unique shoot borer protection method used for young mahogany trees in Sri Lanka is an example of Touchwood’s commitment to leading innovation in forestry. During 2005-2007, Touchwood worked in Thailand with scientists from the University of Minnesota to study Agarwood inoculation technology. The results obtained at harvest exceeded everyone’s expectations.
