Plantation Health
The best protection a tree can have against disease or pest attack is to be healthy.
During the land selection process major emphasis is given to the species’ native range. Growing trees in environments consistent with their native range maximizes the tree’s health potential. A healthy tree requires minimal if any chemical protection which in turn helps the environment provide optimum growing conditions.
Staff working throughout the plantations quickly identify any health issues. Swift remedial action is taken in accordance with the Forest Management Plan and may entail treatment or removal and replacement of the affected tree. The health and well being of the entire plantation is our primary concern.
As with growth monitoring, Touchwood’s own auditors monitor plantation health through a random sampling process with independent auditors evaluating plantation health and quality yearly.
