Landscape Restoration
From the time humans first began herding animals and planting crops, we have changed the natural landscape to suit our needs.
The amount of land under cultivation is increasing while forest areas which provide timber, purify the air and water, create rain, maintain biodiversity and prevent erosion is decreasing. Marginal land cleared and then abandoned must be restored to prevent further degradation.
Managed forestry provides a mechanism for stabilizing degraded land and provides a foundation for the recovery of ecosystems, watersheds and biodiversity. Importantly, managed forestry helps to reduce the clearing of natural forests by creating more productive, cost effective and sustainable sources of forest products.
