July 2005 marked a special event for Touchwood Forestry Co., Ltd. (TFC); the Group's first birthday in Thailand.
As part of our social responsibility and public awareness, we held our first local community meeting at our plantation in Klongragum sub district, with city councilor Khun Pranom Phunnara and fifty local community members. The purpose of the meeting was to educate the members about the economic effects of Agarwood trees on the local community. Each member was given one Agarwood tree to plant in celebration of the event.
Topics covered in the meeting:
- How to plant Agarwood
- How Touchwood helps the local community in planting Agarwood
- Return to the community at harvest in 6 years
- Social benefits of creating jobs for the local community
In 2007, a Touchwood team participated in a golf tournament to raise money for improvements to local police facilities in Kabin Buri. This later led to Touchwood fully sponsoring the Touchwood Cup charity golf tournament in January 2008 held at the Kabin Buri Sports Club. The event was held to raise money for local schoolchildren's scouting activities. More than 100 players participated resulting in 35 tents being donated.
Recently the Thailand Sales Team organized a charity event hosted at the Tha-U-Dom plantation. Many clients visited the plantation to watch performances of Thai dancing and singing by the children of the local school. Afterwards the school was presented with the proceeds of the event to assist with the cost of student facilities and activities at the school.
