Sri Lanka
Touchwood allocated funds to help the 2004 tsunami victims. Quick actions by our team on the ground enabled us to deploy two 4 wheel drive vehicles with four HF transmitters to setup communication with the Prime Minister’s office. On the day after the tsunami struck this was the only communication possible from Hambantota and Matara as all other communication means were lost.
Our work was done in collaboration with the Radio Society of Sri Lanka – who acknowledged our participation in their newsletter and sent a letter addressed to the CEO, thanking Touchwood Investments Limited (TIL) for their swift response. In addition TIL also dispatched relief items to the most crucial areas, which were barely accessible – items included FMCG and medical supplies.
In September 2007, Touchwood’s Chairman, Mr. Roscoe A. Maloney, received the “Desha Bandu” National Award and Gold Medal from the Sri Lanka Social Welfare Peace Foundation in recognition of Touchwood’s support. The Foundation promotes projects in Sri Lanka which aid the disadvantaged, the disabled, the elderly and the environment.
